The story of Borg Design (founder of ListaFirme) began in 2002, when opening a company was an extreme sport: at 4 in the morning you would queue at the Trade Registry, hoping that by the end of the program you would be able to submit the documents. For us, it took almost 3 months to set up. It was our first training in patience and perseverance.
In the early years, we developed the Telefoane application, based on the Romtelecom subscriber directory, which not only allowed searches, but could be linked to the phone and show you who was calling you. Dispatchers loved it, as did entrepreneurs because it was a “wow” thing back then.
An unexpected episode brought us our first corporate client: Romtelecom. They invested EUR 10,000 in the Firme database (the future ListaFirme) and welcomed us into their new data center in Moghioroș Square. At the time, there were only three servers there.
Also at that time, from Mr. Alex from Vodafone, with whom I collaborated for a long time, I learned about refrigerators that order their own food, directly from the Internet, based only on product labels. In 2006, this was science fiction, not the “Internet of Things”.
We had our first official headquarters on Şoseaua Alexandriei, in an apartment rented with other families, yes, a joint company. With my colleague P., a true visionary, we made the first executable version of ListaFirme, on CD, which became one of the products that brought us recognition. The team grew to four people when V., a direct marketing enthusiast, joined us.
In 2005, we opened an office in Berceni. In 2007, we built a dedicated office in Popești-Leordeni. It was close to the metro, but if it rained, the mud literally rolled over your boots.
Because Popești was just fields, pheasants and rabbits, we also built a villa with nine apartments for our colleagues. We solved the road problem, but not the space problem: the headquarters and the villa quickly proved to be too small.
In 2014, we established the call center department, with 11 colleagues. At first, it was a challenge to cover the salaries, but the investment proved to be one of the most inspiring: it allowed us to offer much better quality services to customers by increasing the accuracy of contact information by approximately 40%, and we became the only ones on the market offering such an advantage.
In 2017 we moved to a larger office, near Carol I Park. We enjoyed the space until the pandemic came, when we switched to “remote work”. Today we still have colleagues who work remotely from all corners of the country. The office remained more of a meeting place and a place for memories.
In both Berceni and Popești, we had official visits with inspections and recommendations, as usual. Usually, these ended with a “written warning”. On the last visit, just before we moved, we didn’t receive any notes. Curious, I asked if they had forgotten. Their answer: “Do you want it?”
During the ListaFirme CD era, Saturday was "test-drive" day. We would gather with pizza and juice and get to work: checks, notes, graphs, and the inevitable list of errors. It was a mix of serious work and fun among colleagues, a ritual that brought us even closer.
Years passed, but the stories remained. For example, at a guesthouse in Eforie (renamed by us “The House of Two Lei”), after a night of laughter and jokes, we were suddenly woken up early in the morning by the owner and the moment became legendary.
Or, a former colleague now boss, during a philosophical discussion, made the famous remark: "If women didn't exist, woe to men's bottoms!" and even today we don't know if he was speaking literally or figuratively.
Some stories are born unexpectedly and remain in the soul of the team.
There is no shortage of legendary clients: Mr. F., who used up all the fax paper by sending one word per two pages. And today he calls us with the same introduction: “I am F., your first client!”, after which, if the robot or secretary answers, he sighs: “Oh my, I ran into Mrs. Firewall again, I want Mr. Borg too!”.
Another touching moment came from an LLC. Their first order came with a handwritten note, telling us that, thanks to the ListaFirme CD from over 10 years ago, they saved and grew their business. Messages like this remind us that, beyond data and reports, behind every order are people and stories.
This is our story, with good things, with challenges, with mud, with pizza, with inspections, with laughter and with people. And it's still being written.
